When I was on the brink of high school, a kid that I once ate pizza with at a birthday party murdered a girl. Richard Gellner cut one of his neighbors yards and after finishing entered their house to wash his hands and use the phone, the people were out of town but there daughter was in town who was a little older than Richard. Apparantly, the girl had just gotten out of the shower and was in her towel. Apparantly, Richard hit on her and she resisted his advances. As i remember the story, he literally ripped the phone out of the wall and beat her with it and stabbed her 70-80 times. During the course of the crime, his finger was cut off and one of my older friends was driving by and picked him up, he told my friend that he had cutt off the finger while cutting the grass. When they got to the hospital, the doctor said well go back and get the finger and we can reattach it and that is when the gruesome discovery was made. If I remember Richard was 15 or 16 when this happened and he is still in prision with no possibility of parole. Anyhow, its crazy who you run into during the course of your life. Her parents later sued his parents for wrongful death claiming the parents knew the kid was sick in the head. They lost. You can read more about the case and trial here:

Yeah, I was about ready to enter the 8th grade at Dunwoody High School time at the time of the killing. Richard Gellner was eligible for parole in 1995, after 7 years. He did not get it. I think he's been eligble for parole a few times since. He'll get out of prison,...sometime. A very sad case, however. A

It's Dunwoody, I was in Richard's grade.... Dunwoody is always full of "rumors". Richard sat behind me in english class and he was very nice!! I think this was an impulse thing, and I am sorry for the families loss.... but I have heard different rumors, and I hope that Richard can recover from this.

I just now read the comments of my post..... and NO, I don't excuse him from this, but I do feel some empathy..... that's what we do as god's children.....
When I was 15 we were locked up together in millegville ydc we were good friends he never talked about it he was so nice and quiet we never believed he did what we heard through rumors I am 42 now and looked his name up damn my heart goes out to the family of the girl he killed and damn his bed was beside mine for months

Amy I'm so sorry for your loss. I knew your mother, Amy and your other sister Liz very well had even dated some. The last time I saw Amy was a couple years before her murder. She was so sweet and kind to everyone. Even after all this time I truly still feel sadden to think about what could have been it her future. If I can ever help to make sure he stays where he belongs please let me know.
