'Barbie bandit' pleads guilty By YOLANDA RODRÍGUEZThe Atlanta Journal-ConstitutionPublished on: 08/22/07
Heather Lyn Johnston pleaded guilty to theft by taking, a felony, and to possession of less than 1 ounce of marijuana, a misdemeanor, on Wednesday before Cobb Superior Court Judge Mary Staley.
It was a "non negotiated" plea, meaning that Johnston, 19, doesn't know what sentence the judge will eventually give her. The judge deferred the sentencing until the court hears the case for the other defendants this month.
Heather Lyn Johnston, 19, one of two so-called Barbie Bandits, breaks up on the witness stand in the courtroom of Judge Mary Staley on Wednesday.
Her mom, Lisa, and dad, Ed, testified she's made great strides in getting her life back on track since her arrest. Her parents said they asked her to leave the house when she started doing drugs and stripping at a club.
Heather Lyn Johnston apologized to her family and to "everyone I know" on the witness stand.
The images of two young girls, hiding behind dark glasses and handing a teller a demand note in Acworth, captured worldwide attention in February. They were dubbed the Barbie Bandits.
Several days later Johnston and Ashley Nicole Miller, 19, along with their alleged accomplices, Benny Herman Allen III, 23, and Michael Darrell Chastang, were arrested.
They were indicted on theft by taking charges in June. The indictment says Johnston was also known as "Charli" and Johnston was known as "Adrianne."
The two Gwinnett County girls worked at Doraville area strip club before their arrest.
During a hearing in March, a Cobb County detective said the girls walked away with $10,966. The quartet allegedly split the proceeds four ways.
Allen also is charged filing a false report of a crime — he told police officers that the girls had robbed him.
Additionally, Chastang and Miller, are charged with trafficking in meth.
**I don't give two s***s if this girl has started to change her life, she robbed a bank and needs to do some hard time! I sick if people like Vick and this chick pleaing and thinking that means they don't need to serve time! This judge better lock this chick up for atleast two years!
